Project Background

511 Church Street is a five-storey mixed office development with four levels of car parking and retail tenancies at street level which open into a three-level atrium-style entrance. The property is an A-grade commercial building owned by Cremorne Properties in one of the most sought-after commercial office precincts of Melbourne.

 

Satu Bumi’s Involvement

Satu Bumi was engaged by the Maben Group to manufacture and supply GRC landscaping elements for inclusion with the refurbishment of an outside communal social space for the property. The initial landscaping design was provided by Jack Merlo and installed by Living Landscapes.

The project included three large custom-made GRC circular banquet seating benches, GRC bar-b-que face panels and a combination of fifty-four GRC rectangle and cylindrical planters. Many of the rectangle planters included curved edges, some required circular insets to match several of the cylinder planters and the banquet seating, and some required strengthening to enable the attachment of a metal balustrade. Therefore, the GRC elements were highly customised to suit the specific design intent of the project.

This landscaping project displayed Satu Bumi’s ability to manufacture unusual GRC planter and streetscape landscaping designs to suit the required functionality of a commercial outdoor fit out. All the planters, planter-benches and benches were manufactured with high commercial grade GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) using Satu Bumi’s CityScape technology with a smooth natural grey finish.

This project highlighted the competence of each of the key participants particularly Living Landscapes that installed all the project’s landscaping elements. As a GRC manufacturer and supplier, we always know that when Jack Merlo is involved the design elements of any project are going to be impressive. Therefore, Satu Bumi was proud of its involvement in terms of the manufacture and supply of the customised GRC benches and planters for the project.
