Project Background
After four years of planning and construction, CSL’s new Global Headquarters and Centre for R&D have opened their doors at 655 Elizabeth Street in the heart of Melbourne’s biomedical precinct, welcoming the first of more than 850 employees who will work in the 18-storey building.
CSL is a global biotech company with business units that include CSL Behring, which makes medicines for rare and serious diseases; CSL Seqirus, which develops and manufactures vaccines; and newly acquired CSL Vifor that specialising in iron deficiency and nephrology (kidney care).
CSL’s impressive new Global Headquarters will enable it to collaborate with its external partners, access the best resources available to improve its research and development and to optimise technological advances for the good of patients and public health.
Satu Bumi’s Involvement
Satu Bumi was engaged by Roberts Co. to manufacture and supply sixty-one highly customised GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) bench-planters and planters for the streetscape surrounding CSL’s new high-rise headquarters. The various GRC elements required different combinations of curved GRC ends stainless steel skateboard stoppers, metal seating inlays, and embedded ferrules for the attachment of raised metal surrounds.

The GRC elements supplied by Satu Bumi were installed by Living Landscapes, an award-winning landscape construction company with more than thirty years of industry experience. Living Landscapes has installed Satu Bumi GRC street furniture and planters on several landscaping projects and has consistently delivered a high level of excellence and professionalism across each project.
This project displayed Satu Bumi’s ability to manufacture customised GRC planter-benches to suit the aesthetic and functional requirements of a public space fit-out. All the planters were manufactured with high-grade commercial GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) using Satu Bumi’s CityScape technology and finished with a smooth surface.
