Project Background
East Brunswick Village is a landmark urban renewal development that has transformed the former Sidney Cooke Fasteners site into a vibrant mixed-use community in Melbourne's inner north. Completed in the second half of 2023, the project delivers thoughtfully designed residential apartments together with a wide range of retail, dining, wellness, and entertainment facilities, creating a contemporary village environment focused on sustainable urban living.
Located approximately 6 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD, the development combines the convenience of everyday amenities with high-quality residential spaces. Residents also benefit from exclusive rooftop landscaped areas designed to encourage relaxation, outdoor living, and community interaction.
A key feature of the project was the extensive rooftop landscaping across Lots 3 and 4, designed by JAM Architects. The landscape design incorporated more than three hundred custom planter configurations with varying shapes and sizes. Many of the planters required lowered internal adjoining walls, allowing individual units to align seamlessly and create the visual appearance of continuous planting beds.
Satu Bumi’s Involvement
Satu Bumi was engaged by L.U. Simon Builders to manufacture and supply the project's custom GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) planters for the rooftop landscape areas.
More than three hundred individually customised planter designs were manufactured to meet the architect's specifications, including planters with lowered internal walls that created the appearance of continuous planter lengths once installed. The products were manufactured using high commercial-grade GRC with Satu Bumi's CityScape technology, providing durable, lightweight, and dimensionally accurate landscaping solutions suitable for large-scale commercial developments.
The ability to manufacture the planters off-site enabled product deliveries to be carefully coordinated with the project's construction program. Supported by comprehensive shop drawings, detailed installation planning, and staged deliveries over several months, Satu Bumi successfully supplied all products in accordance with the project's construction schedule.
The completed installation demonstrates Satu Bumi's capability to deliver complex custom GRC manufacturing solutions for large commercial landscape projects, combining design flexibility, manufacturing precision, and reliable project delivery.
The successful delivery of this project was made possible through the close collaboration between the project team, landscape architect, construction contractor, and specialist suppliers, together with careful planning and coordinated project execution throughout every stage of the construction program.
Satu Bumi was proud to contribute to this landmark development through the manufacture and supply of the custom GRC planters, helping bring the architect's vision for the rooftop landscapes to life.
