Project Background

This Defence Housing Australia (DHA) state-of-the-art head office has officially opened in the Gungahlin CBD, moving hundreds of jobs to the northern suburbs of Canberra, and improving conditions for staff working to provide homes for Defence members and their families.

This project has facilitated relocation of around 240 staff from the DHA Barton and Fyshwick offices that can now work together in one location, and benefit from this modern workplace.

The project was developed by Lockbridge and includes a seventy-five car capacity basement car park, ground floor foyer with retail, and two main floors for employees of Defence Housing Australia.

The construction was managed by well-established Canberra and Sydney based Construction Control in conjunction with internationally recognised architects, Guida Moseley Brown.

Satu Bumi’s Involvement

Satu Bumi was engaged directly by Construction Control to manufacture and supply a large three-sided custom GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) planter/bench that was based on Satu Bumi’s Rotunda Triangle design (refer to: www.satubumi.com.au/street furniture) with dimensions specifically tailored to suit the foyer area of the building.

The planter/bench was manufactured off-site in two separate sections and joined on-site to provide a planting space large enough to hold a tree and strong enough to support seating on each of its sides.

This project showcased Satu Bumi’s ability to manufacture unusual GRC landscaping designs to suite quality commercial spaces.

The planter/bench was manufactured with high commercial grade GRC using Satu Bumi's CityScape technology with a natural grey concrete smooth finish.

This project highlighted the competence of each of the key participants particularly Construction Control that provided the installation and project management services for the installation of the planter/bench.

Therefore, Satu Bumi was proud of its involvement in terms of the off-site manufacture and supply of the custom GRC planter/bench.
