Project Background

The Regiment Building is part of The University of Sydney's plan to deliver world class affordable housing that is 25 per cent below local market rental.

The Regiment Building encompasses student accommodation and teaching facilities located on the site of the former Regiment Building that forms a rich part of Sydney's history tracing back to when the University Volunteer Rifle Corps was raised as a unit of the New South Wales Defence Force in 1900.

The construction was completed by Richard Crookes Constructions which is a private, family-owned construction company that has been building for both government and private clients since 1976.

Satu Bumi’s Involvement

Satu Bumi was engaged by Landscape Solutions to manufacture and deliver a range of custom GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) planters for the roof-top terrace of this project.

Some of these planters were 3200mm long, 1600mm wide and 1000mm high, and weighed almost a ton which showcased Satu Bumi's ability to manufacture and deliver very large GRC planters.

All the planters were manufactured with high commercial grade GRC using Satu Bumi's CityScape technology with a natural concrete grey finish.

The installation of the planters was completed by Landscape Solutions, a company with a team of over 600 professionals spread across Australia and New Zealand that provides commercial landscaping solutions, civil landscape construction and landscape maintenance.

This project highlighted the competence of the Richard Crookes Construction company and the ability of Landscapes Solutions to manage the installation of very heavy planters onto the rooftop setting of a high-rise building.

Therefore, Satu Bumi was proud of its involvement in terms of the manufacture and supply of the GRC planters for the project.
