Project Background

Woden Town Centre is the main commercial centre of the district of Woden Valley in Canberra, Australia and “The Woden Experiment” is a revamp of the Woden Town Square.

The revamped area encourages people to spend time socialising in the square.

It’s key features include a stage for community performances, smart benches with phone and laptop charging, flexible table settings next to areas set aside for pop up food and drink vendors, turf areas with sun lounges, demountable pods for meetings and art exhibitions, an outdoor table tennis facility and a nature play space for children.

Satu Bumi’s Involvement

Satu Bumi was engaged by Built - ACT to manufacture and deliver GRC (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) U-Planters that were strong, robust and suitable for use in a public space where the foot traffic would be very high.

All the planters were manufactured with high commercial grade GRC using Satu Bumi's CityScape technology with a natural white concrete finish and are part of Satu Bumi's standard GRC planter catalogue range.

The installation of the planters was managed by Built, a large award winning general contractor that provides total solutions for construction, fit-out and refurbishment projects nationwide.

This project was a successful experiment by the ACT Government to revitalise the heart of Woden and the information gathered from it will be utilized by the government to create other vibrant public spaces in the community.

Therefore, Satu Bumi was proud of its involvement in terms of the manufacture and supply of GRC U-Planters for the project.
